Pleasant-Valley is a town located in the upper Hudson River Valley and is comprised of the three hamlets of Pleasant Valley, Salt Point and Washington Hollow. It's an old community that was settled around 1762 and contains several historic landmarks, such as an inn/restaurant that dates back to 1830 and the Pleasant Valley Mill Site that has records going all the way back to 1757 when it was called "Lott's Mill." Pleasant Valley is a very picturesque place with its' location along the Hudson River and surrounded by rolling hills, lovely vineyards and peaceful farmlands. Guided kayak tours, canoe and kayak rentals and instructional kayak programs are available in Pleasant Valley, as well as other river activities. Other outdoor sports in the area include hiking, biking, golf, snowshoe tours and cross-country skiing. Pleasant Valley is the site of the James Baird State Park, located directly on the Taconic State Parkway. This park has an 18-hole golf course and a sports complex, along with several miles of scenic, wooded trails for hiking and cross-country skiing. The park also features a small nature center that is open in the summertime. The Hudson Valley region is also known for its many antique stores that can be found along country roads and in the small towns and hamlets of the region.

Pleasant Valley Weather & Climate

The Hudson Valley Region which generally refers to the canyon area of the Hudson River and surrounding communities in New York State, has a four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but there are variations. Some years there is no snow or ice and the temperatures and river stays quite mild - high 40s to low 50s. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring. Summers in the Hudson Valley are hazy, warm and humid. September can be a mixed bag of clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is one of the best months in the region for hiking and other outdoor sports. The weather is cooler and less humid then, with crisp, clear views of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Catskills and the Hudson Highlands.

The closest airports in the area are the Stewart International airport (SWF) located about 22 miles southwest of Pleasant Valley in Newburgh, New York, the Bradley International airport (BDL) located approximately 60 miles east of Pleasant Valley in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, the Barnes Municipal airport (BAF) located roughly 63 miles east of Pleasant Valley in Westfield, Massachusetts, and finally the Newark Liberty International airport (EWR) located around 75 miles south of Pleasant Valley in Newark, New Jersey.
