Point-Lookout is a hamlet located within the town of Hempstead in Nassau County, Long Island, New York. As of the 2000 census, the population of Point Lookout was 1,472 - although the Town of Hempstead is one of the most populous places in the state (with a population of over 755,000.) There are 22 incorporated villages and hamlets located completely or partially within the Town of Hempstead. Point Lookout, however, has retained much of its original charm as a private, secluded seaside community, while offering upscale amenities for residents and visitors. You will find restaurants and shops along Lido Boulevard in Point Lookout, which is the main street in town, and the hamlet boasts its own park district with oceanfront beaches, playground and baseball fields (exclusive use for the residents who live there.) Hempstead Lake State Park is nearby in the town of Hempstead and contains three fishing ponds, wooded picnic areas, tennis courts, hiking, biking and horseback riding trails, fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling and a boat launch. Valley Stream State Park is also located within Hempstead and Jones Beach State Park is located in southern Nassau County in the hamlet of Wantagh. The latter is well known for its excellent beaches, two-mile long boardwalk and outdoor arena. Transportation is available to Long Beach from Point Lookout via local buses, where you can then connect to the Long Island Railroad for a 40-minute trip into New York City.

Manhattan and the surrounding area have four seasons of changeable weather. Summers are often hot and muggy and last until September. Temperatures usually soar to near 100 degrees F. for a week to ten days in mid-July to mid-August. Another uncomfortable time to visit New York City is during January and February when temps are often in the 20s and the concrete canyons of the city can turn into wind tunnels. Otherwise, the rest of the year the weather is comfortable, with March usually being the rainiest month. May offers great weather - just warm enough for walking around but cool enough to remain comfortable. Autumn has more sunshine than spring, although both are clear and bright. New York City is magical at Christmas time and the changing leaves of fall makes it a beautiful time to visit the area.
