Rhinebeck is a charming city located across the river from the town of Kingston in the scenic, southeastern region of the state. An area filled with history and charm, Rhinebeck is set amid the lush, rolling hills of the picturesque Hudson River Valley. Founded in 1886, the town of Rhinebeck has 437 sites listed on the National Historic Register, which gives it the distinction of having one of the largest historic districts in the U.S. The "Sixteen Mile Historic District" in Rhinebeck is comprised of 30 elegant riverfront estates that belonged to the wealthy and "elite" who resided here during the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. In addition, the city of Rhinebeck is home to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodome, called "America's Original Living Museum of Antique Aeroplanes," which is world famous for its daredevil sky shows and vintage World War I planes. The Dutchess County Fair is held at the fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, and the city is host to a myriad of other fairs and festivals throughout the year. The Antique Machinery & Rural Life Days Festival is usually held in May, and the Aviation Artists Weekend & Pioneer Days is held in September. Also, in May, Rhinebeck hosts an Antique Car Show & Swap Meet that is called "one of the largest car shows in the Northeast." For those visiting during the holidays, don't miss the Victorian Holiday House Tours, a tradition in Rhinebeck for over 20 years.

Rhinebeck Weather & Climate

The Hudson Valley Region which generally refers to the canyon area of the Hudson River and surrounding communities in New York State, has a four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but there are variations. Some years there is no snow or ice and the temperatures and river stays quite mild - high 40s to low 50s. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring. Summers in the Hudson Valley are hazy, warm and humid. September can be a mixed bag of clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is one of the best months in the region for hiking and other outdoor sports. The weather is cooler and less humid then, with crisp, clear views of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Catskills and the Hudson Highlands.
